Since I have a small live room (half a garage) i need to make some gobos for isolating during live tracking.
have any of you had any experience building Gobos?

2Yeah - it's not hard. 2x4or6's, 3/4" plywood, screws (not nails), some insulation, a saw, and an old sheet is all you need.
Make a rectangular frame, perhaps with a beam in the middle for support, screw the plywood to one side, fill the cavity with the insulation (paper side out) and staple the old sheet over it.
Voila.
EDIT: Here are what mine look like:
It wouldn't be hard to spend more time on them than I did and make them look a little nicer. I didn't care, so I just slapped them together rather hastily, but they do the job.

4Cover? You mean like, paint? or for real coverings?
I've heard of applying tile to one side for a more "live" reflecting surface, but I honestly can't imagine that being worth the trouble.
If paint: anyone at your local hardware store will tell you what's best for the wood you're buying.
Canvas is strong and rugged - not sure about the price, though.

6To get fancy with this...
It can help a little if you slap some sort of absorptive membrane between the main panel and whatever you are coupling that panel to. I have used rubber mat scraps to do this.
Haven't A-B'ed it, and I probably couldn't tell the difference, but the knowledgeable ones say it helps...probably to keep .01% of the resonances in the gobo out of your recording.
