Actually, it is more than one - I bought a fifthG 30G iPod Video and I bought my girlfriend one of those RED Nano 8G models.
And I know this may be some sort of sacrilege, but I assure you I will only put lossless audio on this thing.
In the meantime, I am looking for suggestions:
Accessories?
Care?
Hacks?
One thing I am wondering about is: the main reason I got one was to use it as a hard drive to sync two Macs. So I need to be able to access it on two machines. Any tips on software to make that happen?
thanks.

3Man, it's gonna suck to play wav/aiff files on that thing. They tend to skip or stop due to the high bit rate. Plus you'll be eating up space - one song as a wav/aiff would total a whole album as mp3. Totally unneeded. Try using high bit rate mp3 or m4a.
To use this as a hard drive on a Mac: plug it in > open up the iPod icon on your desk top > drag n' drop files.

4Hey, Are you the Richard that bought dlayphoto's iBook? I was asking him questions about it via email and after about three back and forth (maybe a half hour) he responded, "Sorry, dude. Just sold it."
You snatched it out from under my nose.
Oh well, snooze - looze

I was just joking about the AIF/WAV thing, there will probably only be a few for when we are working on rough mixes. Almost all of my music collection is m4a.
And I am aware of the ease of using the iPod as a hard drive. My question is using it on two machines. Can I just plug it into my powerbook and it will behave the same? I was under the impression that the iPod can only be 'associated' with one computer... no?
thanks.

6Apple lossless is about half the size of the uncompressed .aiff, and--hey--lossless. See how that works for you.
You might want to look at real headphones instead of the earbuds, but that's an individual choice. I'm fond of the Sennheiser PX 200's for portability, and they have pretty good isolation for a small headphone. Mainly I got them for the better frequency curve compared to most cheap headphones, but again that's an individual thing depending on the nature of your ear canal.

7Congratulations, although I dunno about the Red edition.
I only do lossless for material either to be sold or in my possession only temporarily; the rest is mid-range bitrate (AAC).
iLounge is a comprehensive and well done site for accessories and whatnot.
I have this hard shell case for my 60GB video iPod. It's great.

it doesn't matter how many Macs you have, just plug it in and do your thang.

I consider myself lucky to be the proud possessor of some Shure E5's. They are sweet and I dont think the Apple buds will ever even touch my ears.
Anyone have any experience with some of the dock/speaker/stereo sort of things. My buddy from Apple just got one of those HiFi Boombox like things. He said they were great. And someone else recommended those circular ones, I think they are from Bose... (?)

Ok, this raises another question I had: my E5's have the right-angle 1/8" jack for the headphones. Do these cases prevent me from using those? In other words, do you need to have earphones that have a straight jack? That would be silly right?
And really, I can just plug into any machine and it just pops up, huh? Cool, thanks Caix.
I have spent some time at iLounge and have found many useful bits of info, but it is almost too much for me for the first time. So I thought I would ask here. I am sure a lot of time will continue to be spent there though.
