Moving to Milwaukee: Your Advice

No need for me to repeat what's been said here... but yea... Bayview is a nice choice. I live/work there.. although in the past I've lived in Riverwest... I'd prolly pick Bayview just for the safety factor.

Washington Heights is also quite nice.... although a bit removed from the city.

Although I don't want to live out the rest of my life in Milwaukee, it's a pretty cool town. There's a lot of wonderful people here and you could do far worse as far as a city goes.

my advice to anyone going, moving, or near to milwaukee is to visit the Microphone Museum located in Select Sound on 1st and National..

here's the link

Bob Paquette is an angel..and his museum is top notch...probably one of the best in the world.

actually that's not a bad neighborhood either... a lot of the houses are pretty run down...but...well, you're only there for a year.

yes do try looking at the neighborhood around national between 3rd and the freeway..

it's got some creepy ghey bars..places that Dahmer used to haunt.
and a stupid goth-bar that's good for a few laughs..

it's close to downtown..close to the east side...close to bayview..
and should be relativly cheap

before moving to barcelona i was living in the brewers hill...in an old shoe factory...pretty cheap but surrounded by yuppie shitbags. i would avoid it..

i would also avoid riverwest...it's not worth it...and you can always visit..

another area worth checking out is booth st. south of north ave...
it runs about 3 blocks and is tucked away nicely..
i lived on that street for about 6 years..

the public transit in milwaukee is shit so i hope you have a car.
only dave monroe walks everywhere..

as for the bars...
circle a is a great bar with a freak for an owner..
i like the foundation in riverwest..they make great martini's for 5bucks.
and j-mo's on the east side... they let in dogs and have Patron..

for music shops i like GearHeads on national ave..
and music-go-round in greenfield..
and of course RockHaus.

i can't speak highly enough about the thrift stores in milwaukee..
but that's the luck of the draw of course.

and for the love of god get a library card the week you move in...
the Milwaukee Public Library System is fantastic.

if you feel the need to actually buy records...check out Farwell Music next to the Comet Cafe..
and Flipville across the street next to Koppa's..

go to Koppa's a lot..

and make sure you have a stocked kitchen.. almost everything except bars closes at 6pm...so your late night dining choices will be shit..

finally...get some bear mace...milwaukee is full of hoods at night.

It's called Bullseye Music now. But yes, go there. Often, as I do.

Uh, I don't know where the hell you're getting this from...every restaurant I can think of off the top of my head around here is open until 9 or 10.

But y'know, sure, buy food from the grocery stores. It's cheaper.
Hey. My name's Josh.

look folks...have you been to chicago..?

you do realize that the greazy diners after midnight are plentiful right?

do you see that in riverwest?

no you don't....and don't bring up stupid ass NessunDorma...
the food all tastes alike after 4 visits..

besides that....some of us are still in morning over the stork club..

and the booze can be achieved after 9 if you're friendly with john at the polish falcon..
