Friend of Freud and developer of Orgone theory (whatever the fuck that is) claimed to find a cancer therapy then locked up and thirty years of scientific research shoved on the furnace.

In America no less.

Died in prison.

I found this book of his diaries and letters in a second hand shop in York. Robert Wilson talked about him so I intrigued.

When you read about him he sounds like a mad bastard. But when I read him he seems quite level headed and quite devoted to serious scientific investigation of his theories.

Not too far into the book i must admit but what say the fair electrical visitors?

Incidentally trivia fans Kate Bush's Cloud Busting is apparently about Wilhelm Reich and his son don't you know.

I read The Mass Psychology of Facsism. I thought it was an ok read. Very repetive, but interesting at least. Apparently he has 2 theories, orgones and orgasm anxiety (or whatever he calls it), and he has parlayed those into more than 2 books. As for how "scientifically" valid any of it is, I'll reserve judgement.
Didn't Apocalypse Culture have some essay about him claiming something to the effect that Reich's theories were so threatening to various vested interests that they tried to silence him? I mean, he was just a guy that thought he could improve his health by sitting in some special chamber and screwing all the time...I think Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger are probably the two healthiest people on Earth then.

Without pronouncing a verdict on the man's life-work, I shall simply convey that Orgonon* is not crap, especially the architecture, furnishings, authentic WR bric-a-brac, amateur paintings, etc.

The area around Rangeley is likewise fantastic. I've never been to northern Ontario, but I imagine that it must be something like _

*Which he set up as his home and laboratory but is now the Wilhelm Reich Museum. I recommend getting on their mailing list.
