Don't get me wrong, I love the 80s material. I just don't think the new stuff cuts it at all. To be fair, I did see them live a couple of years back and they were very good. The new records just don't have the same magic.

Mission of Burma kicked all kinds of ass over the Birthday Party. In fact, I will go as far to say as any of the Birthday Party's output is unmemorable--because I don't remember it. But I do remember having one of their albums for a brief period in the mid-eighties. It left no impression on me.

Funny, this thread reminds me that one of the few crucial acts I've missed live over the years was Iggy.

I remember trying to listen to it because I was going to buy it and the recording was so awful that I couldn't tell whether it was good or not.

As far as the new stuff goes, I like it a lot.
The recordings are excellent and the songwriting is still up to par.

ps. I will mention that I think "That's When I Reach for My Revolver" is a bad song. "Trem Two" is their best.

I really feel no need whatsoever to rank those bands. As far as I'm concerned, they're all in my top 10. Hell, maybe even top 5.

I liked it a lot when I thought Burma were the best band ever. This was most likely when I was maybe 16 or 17 and sound quality or 'production' meant absolutely nothing to me. It is abrasive but I gather that was the point. Hence the album title I guess.
