Little Drummer Boy.
Performed by pretty much anyone, really, although Low's version takes the cake. Even the Dandy Warhols did quite a good version.
I'm not a Christian, but the sentiment expressed in the song is really beautiful - 'I don't have much in the face of this big thing that I don't really understand, but I do have this little drum that i can play for it' - expressed in very minimal lyrics that I'd love to have written:
I played my drum for him.
I played my best for him.
Then he smiled at me.
Beautiful.

If you haven't already, you've gotta hear Johnny Cash's version. He omits the pa-rum-pa-pum-pum's, and it's totally dramatic. The Jackson 5 do a good one, too.

55Cheers Brett, I'll seek it out.
Another old and not well known good one is (Little) Stevie Wonder's Someday At Christmas. Which is about war.

playing with bombs like kids play with toys...

..which reminds me of Bob and Doug McKenzie's "12 Beers of Christmas", which I'm also surprised no one else has mentioned. This, to me, brings back memories of the holidays... although that may just be due to growing up in close proximity to the Canadian border
