im looking for a decent quality, low buck, lo fi, bullet type mic. not for harp playing but for yelling and screetching through. ive been hittin up lots of thrift stores looking for old dispatch mic's but nothing so far.
anyone have any experience with these types of mic's for vocal applications?

2no but i made my own mic from an old telephone handset speaker.
took it out of the handset and found something to fit it in and mount, a vacuum cleaner tube suffuced well. drilled a whole, slammed a jack on the end, voila! the reason i ran it with a jack is because being balanced wasnt really going to help it in anyway, i still wanted it to be noisey and obnoxious, werks very well!

3Yeah, just use a telephone. Or a walkman. Or a CB microphone. Or a computer headset. Or put a piezo disc in your mouth. Radio shack mics are my favorite, through a fuzz pedal.
Really, any transducer works if you are going for fucked. And they are all over the place, and each kind is slightly different.
Oh wait...decent quality. You mean durable build quality, or are you targeting a certain level of fidelity?

4merely durable. fidelity isn't an issue . of course i want it to sound somewhat intelligible but thats the only basic requirement haha.

7I'm fond of old Astatic mics for this purpose. You're most likely to find 'em at electronic parts surplus places or ham radio fairs. Or maybe junk shops, garage sales, whatever. You may have to wire up a new plug for it--the ones I've seen take some kind of screw connector, but that's no big deal to replace.

8Go to old schools...radio stations (public)...
Make friends.
Buy a cheap Shure PGM series mic or some damn thing like that, and offer a swap for their old thing. I remember lots of places where they would go for it. Intercom systems, etc.

10Wouldn't you better better off (unless this is for live work) using BP filtering?
