how was ATP?

The Dead C were really really good, I wasn;t expecting much based on the three or so mp3s I'd managed to download (al of which just sounded like static) but they blew me away...so much guitar noise, so many awesome beats...

I was lucky because I ended up not having to queue very much at all, but that was sheer luck, no planning went into it at all, and really there shouldn;t be any sort of queuing at all...

On the upside, Melvins were fantastic. The second set they played in particular was one of the best rock performances I've seen in a long while. Stooges and Gang of Four, also very good. I can't believe Go4 did a second set the same night, Hugo Burnham looked like he needed an oxygen tent by the end of the first one. Sonic Youth were okay but it seemed to fall a bit flat. Enjoyed Alexander Tucker. Six Organs were dreadful though. I think they may have been quite pissed, but the bass playing was all over the place...in a bad way. Also, they really shouldn't have invited Rick Bishop up to jam. I'm no real fan of Sun City Girls but he comprehensively wiped the floor with their feeble attempts at improvising without even breaking a sweat

However, the queues put a major damper on the event. Leaving half way through a set to try and catch another act was totally out of the question. Made the mistake of skipping out for a brew before Dinosaur Jr (couldn't get back in) and Comets on Fire (waited for nearly and hour and still couldn't get in). Didn't even bother trying to see MC5 (still full from Iggy's set). I'm pretty sure the size of the Sun City Girls queue was at least partly driven by people not wanting to miss Gang of Four. It just seemed to have been oversold. Shades of the Slint reunion (although not as much of an obvious gouge). If they don't rethink the next one, I'd start queuing for Shellac about now.
