Steve Albini - that guy from Garbage

I suspect some of you may get a kick out of this.

So I'm teaching a course on the American presidency this semester, and my students just took their final exam. To make a very long story short, one of the topics we discussed was what kind of people have the most success as presidential candidates (i.e. Governors, sitting Vice-Presidents) and what kind of people do not (i.e. Senators).

On their final, one multiple choice question gave them a list of fictional presidential candidates and asked them to pick the one they'd assume to have the best chance of being elected in 2008.

Since I was listening to 1000 Hurts when writing the exam, I used the band members as three of the fictional names (assuming that none of my fratboy students would pick up on it) i.e. Senator Steve Albini, Governor Bob Weston, Congressman Todd Trainer, etc.

After handing in the exam, one student pointed to Senator Albini and said "This name looks really familiar...isn't that the guy from Garbage?" i.e. Butch Vig.

I resisted the temptation to make a "100 grand plus three points" joke that he wouldn't get, so I simply told him yes, Steve Albini is the drummer in Garbage. I figured that since the final exam was over, thus ended my obligation to educate him.

Now, to grade all these fuckers...

Steve Albini - that guy from Garbage

I've used Albini the Weenie as a distractor on my history of rock and roll final before.

Let me look....according to 47% of section II, summer 2006, Steve recorded, employing unique splicing and overdubing techniques, both Sgt. Peppers and the White Album. Mind you, this class had a student who had "never heard of the Beatles", and I don't think she was kidding. Fuck homeschooling.

Apparently a pulse isn't enough to pass my class.
