Lace Alumitone pickups

I actually really like the way these look.....

hmmm, I want to know if they are any good. I am going to replace the pickup in my main guitar here in the next couple of weeks and might consider this if I can find out someone's experience with them. I have only found one review online on guitarnoise.com, and that guy liked them.....he said they were very clean and that is what I am looking for.

More reviews.

Well, there you go. Seems to have nothing but solid reviews and everyone says that they are very clean. I think I will buy one then....I was already going to get a new P90 for about the same price and I am sure that it will be much better than the horrible humbucker that is in my guitar now...

Hi there! Ive had Alumitones for about 2 years now in my 60's reissue Mexi Strat. I think alot of people will probably buy these because they look so cool, but there are a few things they should know:

1. They cannot be used with other types of pickups(officialy)
2. Pickguard will require modification to fit these suckers
3. The bridge pickup isn't wide enough to catch high E
4. According to tech who installed them, the wiring is bizarre and they did not even come with the right wiring diagram

Having said all that, they do actually sound quite good. I would describe the sound as Strat -like, but able to crossover into typical humbucker territory , albeit barely. My theory is that Lace still had these at the protype stage and released them anyway. It just seems odd that they don't physically fit the guitar they were meant to go with , doesn't it?

Having just had to take a file to my Yamaha semi to get some supposedly standard, drop-in humbucker-sized P90s to fit, I wouldn't be first recommend buying non-standard sized PUs...
