Not nicknames, but actual first names you don't hear very often.
'Moon Unit' Zappa comes to mind... 'Apple' Paltrow...
It seems some celebrities just want to outdo each other when it comes to naming their kids. But interesting names pop in everyday life, too.

4My wife works for the department of work and pensions and gets to here some pretty great names.
My current favourite is 'Shardonay'. Like the grape see, but spelled incorrectly. It has become pretty popular.
There's a little girl who I regularly encounter in the local grocers called 'Ebony'. She is white, with blue eyes and blond hair.

8American steel mills are full of old line immigrant stock with names like I didn't hear in the white bread WASPy neighborhoods I grew up in. I've worked with the following over the years:
Goyko
Gabor
Grover (no shit...just like the Muppet, but named far before Mr. Henson's creation)
Brnco (his last name was Rnic)
Merril
Merle
Doyle
Dravo

"Nimrod" is a not too uncommon Jewish name. It's very nice, but not very unique.
