I spent most of my childhood living in places with no accompanying the tub, and when we finally moved to a place that had a shower, there was no going back. To this day, I habitually wash my hair first, having done that in my bath-taking days so I wouldn't be rinsing it in dirty water.

I'm fortunate to have one of those old-timey clawfoot tubs in my place, and there is nothing like a lazy soak in one of those. Once it gets cold, I'll drain it and draw another one.

I shower at least once a day. I sometimes run at lunchtime[like today I MUST run to kick start my metabolism. Run you fat bastard, run!] so I may have two showers. On a Tuesday I play football after work, so I may have had a shower in the morning, one at lunchtime after a run and then one after football. That's three.

I used to have one of those in the flat my wife and I renovated. It was great. The taps were on stand pipes at the middle of the bath so if we were sharing no one got the taps at their back. Nice way to relax, sharing a bath, some good music, dimmed lights.

i used to work across from a cafe -- in a city that will go un-named. this cafe was an anarchy-burger type place in which many employees were apparently railing against the tyranny of bathing. sometimes one of them would come over to the store i worked at and even from behind the counter i could barely breathe they were so smelly.

i never, ever go to work without showering, mostly so as to avoid offending my coworkers. the advertising-assisted fear of smelling bad works wonders. i often shower twice a day and use a wash cloth, on average, every couple of days. but i wouldn't be surprised if i smelled a little according to some people's standards. some people are nazis as far as freshness is concerned. these people, as ernest becker would point out, are living in denial of their creatureliness.

I have just stepped out of the shower* and I'm back at my desk with wet hair. It feels OK, not weird at all.
