caught it this weekend and thought it was pretty great. not as much fantasy as I thought there was going to be, but Easily better than the Devil's Backbone, which was also super. oddly similar films in that they parallel horror with war and war politics. lots of cringe inducing moments.

Pan and the Baby-Eater were great great great/creepy.

the people that brought their kid to the theater when we went are idiots.

good stuff.

Weird. I just got home from seeing this. I thought it was fan-fucking-tastic. I must admit, I was under the impression it was gonna be a dark kid's fairytale, so was genuinely shocked and disturbed on more than one occasion. The sound was great, the juxtaposition of fairytale and all too real drama was great and it looked superb.

Not crap. Not in the slightest.

Pan and the Pale-Man alone are worth seeing on the big screen. Pan is towering. We were glad we didn't wait for the video, fwiw. We drove about half an hour out of the city to see it, if that helps yr. decision.

I just recently read that Del Toro didn't charge for his salary during the making of this movie. Instead, that money went to some final details that ended up making the film even better.

He also mentions how he refused to make the ending a happy one; something that would have allowed the film to have a more mainstream exposure.
