Actually, I think Knob Creek is a bit sweeter than Maker's. It's a damn fine bourbon, but Maker's is easier drinking.


Neither of them can beat Eagle Rare or Bulleit.

vockins, if you want to pair some pretty decent animal flesh with a really good bourbon selection, hit Bar BQ in South Slope. They've got a bourbon list about 30 bottles long, plus some pretty good barbecued ribs and chicken. Not quite up to the standards of back home, but for a Yankee attempt, it's good stuff.

For me it's Makers. I feel like the price point of Knob Creek is just way off. For the money there are many other bourbons I'd rather drink.

George T. Stagg blows everything else away. Barrel proof. Ten years old. Binny's in Chicago has it once in a while.

Evan Williams Single Barrel is ten years old and pretty good for the price.

Below that I'll take Woodford.


Stagg is the standard though.

Knob Creek all the way. More body and flavor.

I got a bottle of Aberlour single malt 10 yr for xmas. What a way to wind down the evening.

Knob Creek hands down. I think Makers is shit...absolutely flat shit.

Marketing...it's all marketing. It's the Absolut of bourbon.

Knob Creek has more body, thicker wood flavor and is a tad spicier.

Someone mentioned Bulleit on here, and it rules over the other two hands down. It's much heavier on rye so it has a much spicier flavor than the other two.

Knob Creek is 9 year old Jim Beam. There are 3 Beam's that I know of that are easily had:

Beam White label (4 years old)
Beam Black label (7 or 8 years old)
Knob Creek (9 year old Beam)

buy all 3 and you can see the HUGE difference b/t aging in a barrel.

Now, with that said, treat yourself to something much finer than all of the aforementioned spirits and guy some Single Barrel Even Williams. The 1996 is readily available in most liquore stores and it's fantastic.

Ezra B Single Barrel
Wathen's
Rowan's Creek

Bourbon, in my opinion, is much better than any other spirit. I like it more than Scotch, blends or single malts. It's cheaper and just better.

thank you for posting the link. last year on new year's eve I tried Virginia Gentleman for the first time. It is very fine. This new year's eve I tried Elmer Lee for the first time. It is also very fine. I am surprised and delighted to find that a seasoned drinkingman like Mr. Cohen recommends two that I enjoy greatly. I think even I like his band more now. Sault, Bottomless Pits, I await your record and I waste my time with two fine American alcoholic beverages.

Lenell has a bourbon class that's supposed to incredible. I think it's under events.

I saw you can get the Van Winkle 12-yr-old Special Reserve. You should take advantage of that. Forum member apl4eris introduced me to this maker of bourbons, and I'm still grateful. I haven't had the 15-yr-old, but I hear great thing, and the 20-yr-old is amazing, though out of my price range. I hear the 23-yr-old is overpriced. The special reserve is the best deal I've found for an amazing bourbon at a (sort of) reasonable price.

In this contest I'd go with Knob Creek. But I'd leave both on the shelf if the store had VW.
