You should try Eagle Rare 17-year old if you want to splurge on a special bottle sometime. Very intense but delicious. Definitely made to be enjoyed on the rocks or with a few drops of water.

I just bought a bottle of Black Maple Hill Single Barrel Premium Kentucky Bourbon.

I think it is the best bourbon I have had so far. Not cheap by a long shot. Smooth.

I endorse it wholeheartedly.

what's the age statement on your Black Maple Hill? And...where was it made, that is, which city in KY?

This is a HUGE bourbon, lots of nuance, really fills the mouth, and the finish lasts forever, in a good way.

Ridgewood Reserve 1792 is amazing. It's a good complex bourbon, lots of character, lots of spice.

I'm just finishing up some Rebel Yell. Not digging it at all. Too limp and watery. I need a good workin' man's drink.

I'm too young for snobbery but I tried. Elijah Craig was too dry for me, had a Scotchy taste and I don't like Scotch. Bulliet was too smooth and sweet. Makers is too sharp for me--not enough depth. Woodford reserve was OK.

I do like Wild Turkey 101.

I love that shit. I got the 18 for Valentine's Day last year and that wrecked shop as well.

areopagite--how do you drink your bourbon? i ask only b/c i agree with you about Rebel Yell. It's flat, a good mixer but not a good sipper.

But....Bulleit...flat? That shit is HUGE, very big and spicy. You're the first person I've ever heard say that you thought it was smooth and sweet.

Makers--I'd say not as flat as Rebel, but certainly not big and not much character. It's just embodies the generic flavor "bourbon."

And which Elijah did you have? 12 or 18?

I'm a rocks drinker. I like a big bite at first, and I'll sip on it for 45 minutes or so as it waters down. The thing about the Rebel Yell is that it's already mild on first sip and just get worse as time elapses.

I may be wrong about Bulleit. I just remember thinking it was dangerous--too easy to drink. It is very sweet though.
