3I don't see how anyone could vote crap on this. At least he didn't stalk the girl who refused to marry him. Instead he builds a megalithic monument to her. A waste of energy, but still cool.

4He'd look to the East toward Latvia and state he only hoped Scuffs would hear of or see his castle and realize his love for her.
Upon hearing this story, Scuffs responded, "I did not want to marry Edward when I was 16, and I don't want to marry him now."

5I have actually been loosely obsessed with this, though not so much to the point of planning a trip around it yet.
The prevalent geek theory from a couple of years back was that he used giant magnetic tuning forks with resonant properties that would counteract / null / greatly reduce the gravitational pull on the object.
Awhile back I skimmed some of Leedskalnin's papers posted at keelynet.org, and I think one pamphlet made mention of his belief that this was how the Egyptian pyramids were build, and that museum achives in Egypt are stuffed full of these tuning forks.
Or some such shit. I am a gullible child when it comes to magnetics.
Some Wikipedia wag wrote:Some suggest that he used a form of antigravity device to build the castle since Leedskalnin weighed just 100 lb (45 kg) and seemed too weak to physically build it using ordinary means. Numerous designs have been suggested for this device, some using "harmonic sound waves", some using magnetism, and numerous other proposals. Leedskalnin himself claimed that he knew the "secret" of the ancient Egyptian pyramids, and some allege he used those secrets to assemble the structure. However, it's likely Leedskalnin constructed the Castle using simple traditional means, as pictures exist[verification needed] of him constructing the castle with blocks and tackle.

6The X-files-ish back story is what intrigues me as well. You can debunk it by saying the guy just had his friends help him in the dark, but it's still an interesting story.
