Pretty sure the worst bar I was ever dragged to was Roscoe's, here in Chicago. Some guy friends of mine thought it was funny to get stoned and go there and dance with each other. It's basically gay ground-zero in Chicago. One time I went with them, begrudgingly, and here's how it went...
Super, super crowded. Nothing but doudes, with just a couple chicks here and there. They maybe weren't even chicks for all I know.
This place is all about the dancing.
We find a spot where I can stand, since I don't like dancing in the first place, and there's basically nothing else to do but stand around and drink.
There's an actual conga-line type thing going on, a line of doudes all holding the hips of the guy in front of them, worming their way all over the place through the dance floor which we are standing near. And every fucking guy, as they go past us, is rubbing up against me a lot. So we move to a different spot, closer to the bar. Same thing. Conga line of feel-coppers.
This has nothing to do with me not liking gay doudes. I really couldn't care less about that. It has to do with me not liking dance clubs, and me not liking lots and lots of stangers crowding me. I like space. I'm not a fan of being felt up by mobs of people.
Most awful bar I've ever been dragged to, no doubt.
I'm now laughing, picturing how crowded it's gonna be at the Mission of Burma show tonight... the funny part is picturing going there and it's super crowded, but it's not Mission of Burma, it's fucking techno music and a conga line of douchebags copping a feel.
So for me, it's crowded bars in general, and the one time I was dragged to Roscoe's specifically.
