i'm sure we all have phases where we listen to one thing a lot. for days, weeks or months. one band, one album, one song.
currently i'm obsessed with the ex.
that radio show w/ the four new songs, and the video of "waiting" kinda kicked it off.
i always get excited whenever i hear they have something new coming out.
this year is looking pretty good as far as new releases: the new stooges (which i'm thinking will sound like another iggy pop album), nick cave's new band, grinderman, a new shellac record, but what i'm really excited about is another ex album.
the last 3 (released in the u.s.) have been spectacular. and i'm dying for a new one.
anyways, what're you guys current favorites?

2Explosions in the Sky. Hardly qualifies as an obsession, though, because it's a rare week when I listen to more than an hour of music of my own choice.

3I'm on a massive God is my co-pilot kick the last few days
It's a lot of work liking this band, as they have about 100 CD's each with maybe 3 or 4 really good songs on them, the rest being chaotic noise that I do not enjoy.
I've been going thru them all and I've finally got a playlist finished of all their good shit.
If anyone's curious there's exactally 63 really good songs in their entire catalog.

4Masada: Live in Middelheim, Mastodon: Blood Mountain and Ornette Coleman: Sound Grammar. I'm obsessed with all three at the moment. Have played them all twice today whilst clearing the shit out of my record collection. Haven't done it properly for a while so there is a fair bit in there.

6Red-Eyed Soul by World/Inferno Friendship Society. I'm still blown away by this album after listening to it (almost straight) for around 4 months. They didn't have one song I liked out of their last 4(?) albums... I wasn't expecting much out of this, but boy is it great.

8I'm currently stuck on
Manuel Gottsching - Inventions for electric guitar
I guess it's a member of Ash Ra Tempel, a band I know very little about and didn't really find all that interesting, but this record is fantastic. It sounds extremely similar to the more electronic krautrock of the day, especially Tangerine Dream, Cluster, Harmonia, etc. However, it's all done on guitar. I can't detect any keyboards except perhaps some sparse padlike things in the back ground...could be guitar as well. Anyway, if you're into this sort of stuff, you must know about this LP.

I actually would be curious to see this playlist, to save me the very work that you did. Even better would be if you could narrow GIMCP down to a solid 80 minutes, and you posted those tracks in a .zip file to the EA sendspace thread.
