Shure SM7

24
My tuppence - I bought an SM7b last year. It cost me about $300 on a trip to New York, and it scared the bejesus out of two sets of JFK security staff. Boxed, odd-shaped microphones look a little like tactical nuclear devices on x-ray. That was a whole load of fun.

It has been in use for all the applications mentioned already, but really is wildly good for 'regular' pop/rock vocals. It has that bedded, honky, projecting Shure character that singe-ers look for when they moan 'oh, I sound really good live when I'm through a SM58/ SM57'....except it actually sounds good.
Needs a lot of gain though.
