Band name and getting sued

The plan was to intentionally name yourself after a person or company, like Xerox. You'd have a fax machine on stage and play until the notice from the lawyers arrived.

I would totally play in a band like that.

Jason Forrest had to drop "Donna Summer" as his Nom de Disque because of vague threats from her lawyers, IIRC.

No such action, though, against Duran Duran Duran.

I always thought that this band was called the Dairy Queen Experience. Dairy Queen Empire sounds better.

Ooh! Then the cover art could be Malcolm-Jamal Warner in a Chinese flag t-shirt.

Ouch!

I imagine they were hoping for at least some publicity, but I never heard about them having any trouble or legal threats. They're too small for anybody to care.
Maybe they'd get more publicity if it was possible to google them.

The mighty Penthouse had to change their name outside of the UK, they were going to call themselves

THE ESTATE OF ELVIS PRESLEY

and thought better of it, opting instead for

50 TONS OF BLACK TERROR

I have faced problems being in a band called Lords. Fortunately, the Louisville Lords have been cool about it all. It's a problem for both bands so we've opted to share the name. Although we're playing sunny Texas in 8 weeks so lets see what happens then.

The band I'm in just changed names after we found out about a considerably more established band in New York who got there first. We decided it was best to do it sooner rather than when we've done a load of gigs and (hopefully) put a record out.

How come Trans Am never got sued?
