i think terraform is my favourite sounding record ever to be honest. its better sounding than ap or 1000 IMHO, though they do sound rad as well. i wonder if bob will decide to swear at me again for opening my yap.

I'll also add Cowboy Junkies' cover of Sweet Jane. Such a fabulous sound, courtesy of one Soundfield microphone. That sounds like you're right in the room listening to the band.

Hahaha. You have a point there. That is a weird, tinny sounding record. I like SM-57/58s, but I wouldnt make a record that sounds like those were the only mics I used. That waveform is just hilarious though. Big ol' square waveforms are good if the music you're making is overly harsh, but its luaghable when its the chilli peppers.

They are a very horrendous band, and I think the production on My Chemical Romance's new album is 'god-awful'. Some in-house label engineer made that record sound like ass.

All the Shellac records sound great to me.

Five Leaves Left : Nick Drake. Some crits suggest that Bryter Layter was the better sounding but to me it sounds overblown and those godawful string arrangements make me want to puke. Pity, coz there are some fine songs there.

Whether one likes him or not Beck made a beautiful sounding record with Sea Change.

The Fall's Hex Enduction Hour is my favorite record, sound-wise. No idea why, really, but I like how it was recording.

I'm going to be predictable...

Pretty much most things Steve has recorded sound great to me, this isn't a suck up, I really love the sound of his recording.

Rid of Me - PJ Harvey, is amazing as is Pixies - Surfer Rosa, even In Utero... etc. etc. On vinyl, on a good player with a nice pair headphones, after a couple of drinks, pure audio heaven.

I also love Kind of Blue - Miles Davis, Getz/Gillberto - Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto.

For metal madness Betty - Helmet is fucking amazing and pretty much the only thing I really love about that band, also a New Zealand band Shihad, made a record called Killjoy which blows me away, it's a very "Steve" sounding record as it was recorded live straight to tape with some very nice mics.

Also a bunch of recordings of the Chicago Phili doing Stravinsky in the 50s are great...
