72I can't remember if I've already replied to this thread.
Anyway,
On The Beach and Zuma by Neil Young,
Solid Air by John Martyn,
All Shellac albums,
In Utero by Nirvana,
Steady Diet Of Nothing by Fugazi,
III by Led Zeppelin,
Evil Empire by Rage Against The Machine,
I have to agree with you there - the production on that album is the best of its kind.

If I'm not mistaken, these were recorded live to two-track.
I read something once about Holger dumpster-diving outside of studios for discarded reels of tape.

75It's not very well known but I thing Wuhling's Extra 6 record sounds fucking great. The clarity and space on that record just does it for me.
Also,
Rachels Systems/Layers
Fennesz Endless Summer
and finally
Eyvind Kang Virginal Co-ordinates
It was recorded live, which I would normally stay away from. But the enviroment in no way blunts the power of the recording.

76There are a lot of great sounding records, probably more than bad sounding ones. One of the best (and most flattering to the band) is Dianogah's Battle Champions. And, actually, the kick drum on As Seen From Above is among my favorite kick drum recordings of all time alongside "Honky Tonk Women" and "Back in Black" and "Misty Mountain Hop". Dianogah - you have a lot of great sounding records. Is great sounding supposed to be hyphenated?

79i really like pretty girls make graves 'good health'. each instrument is so spacey and far away from the other. i think it sounds great
i also really like kill sadie's 'experiments in expectation'.
i think matt bayles did both of those but am not sure
i also really like most of REM's recordings, especially bang and blame for some reason
lastly i really like the drum sound on new pornographer's 'twin cinema'. it kind of reminds me of the drums on one of those our lady peace singles off that stupid 'concept' record they did. you know, where the bass drum doesn't sound muffled or flat at all and the skins sound like they're just hanging off the shells
dirty three ocean songs is definitely a good call
for hardcore i like kurt ballou's recordings, like jane doe by converge, where everything is fucking loud and peaking
for glossier/shinier stuff i really like the recording for hellacopters 'by the grace of god'
and also that ross rossinginegiher whatever dude's name, the guy who recorded 'relationship of command' for atdi and i think he also did 'march on electric children' by blood brothers, but totally approached both records with a major-label-recording point of view
'1979' by smashing pumpkins and a lot of butch vig stuff (is he even the one who did those recordings?) are also pretty sweet
whoever recorded the new jr ewing record did a really good job. that shit is fucking perfect for that band.
