get the Cirkus and Trampolin upgrades if you haven't. The VPIs are nice, but I think the Linn sounds a lot better if properly set up.

and yes, get a MC cartridge if you can swing it. A good preamp like a Linn Linto, or even an old Linn Kairn (with phono) is not terribly expensive.

I don't have the Cirkus or Trampolin upgrades, but I'm not entirely sure they'd be worth the money, but then again I haven't compared the differences. I am using a low output MC, and built the Hagerman Cornet phono preamp with Lundahl step-ups, which is really really good for the money.

Is that so wrong?

Hey, highlighters don't come cheap! Besides, every time you use it now (really, how often do you need a highlighter?!), you'll think of the great job you did at the seminar. Um, yeah, no good comment there, sorry.

The best thing I've ever received from someone trying to show their appreciation for support was a plaque with a boomerang on it. A boomerang. A real, functioning, made in Australia fucking boomerang!! I was completely stunned until I looked at the accompanying text, which read "Here's to the return on your investment!" Pretty sweet, but like I was gonna hang that thing on my wall. I cut off the boomerang to throw around the park and used the backing of the plaque as a shelf for my books at the office.

There reigned a manly storm yesterday, so I went for a bike-ride after work. Nothing like plowing yo' wheels into a decent South by Southwester. After a while I came by this construction site, and there was a carcass of a new apartment complex, and it was like one giant harmonica, or a Call of Cthulhu type thing. Just this drone:

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

With bits and pieces flying off of it.

I just stood there for a while and then went home.

After blowing two power supplies yesterday, today is the first day I will attempt to shoot electrons at a phosphor screen using an electron gun that I designed and built myself. This evening I will be driving to Tampa to see my friends play with Dinosaur Jr. Tomorrow I am driving to Biloxi to play cards for a couple of days. It is a lot of driving but will be well worth it.

I was just tidying-up in advance of the arrival of my daughter's Chinese friend and her mum. I briefly considered clearing the few, assorted oddments from the top of the large wardrobe we have on the landing, but then thought:

"Nah, they won't be able to see up there..."

and sniggered guiltily to myself.

Dear Christ, why was I born with this inability to not find anachronistic, and (let's face it) highly inappropriate, distasteful racist humour...humorous?!

As I was writing this post, I played out a sketch in my mind (as often I do) wherein I was so aghast at myself that I felt it necessary to apologise to them for this entirely private moment, but upon doing so said 'I'm so solly!'!

Argh!

I've been possessed by the spirit of Basil Faulty in the 'don't mention the war' episode!

I love stuff like that. In the winter, the tower in Astroland makes a similar noise, and it it terrifying.
