hair of the dog is a bad thing- even if you wake up shaking and sweating, you want your body to get rid of the booze, not get used to it. the exception to this is a gently mixed bloody mary, for all the vitamins and stuff.

gatorade is a good call, but pedialyte takes gatorade to school, even if it tastes like hell. now, good luck buying it without feeling totally retarded.

asprin, i find, doesn't help, and why punish your poor liver any more? you've got a headache because you're dehydrated. water = life, even if we don't want to admit it and write legislation attempting replace water with, say, bourbon.
this space reserved for nonsense.

I've had the same hangover routine for awhile now and it's worked fine for me. I usually just head straight to bed, then get up by 10 (now that the bars close at 2, that still gives you a decent amount of sleep) and get a big, full breakfast, usually consisting of some sort of egg (omelette, scrambled or otherwise). To drink, water and coffee, or OJ, water and coffee, whatever works. Then you're usually feeling like a million bucks by noon.

I discovered recently that the acid in OJ means instant puke-o-rama for me in hangover mode. It looks and tastes so good to my furry mouth, but as soon as it hits my stomach, it's chunky carrot time.

BTW - you know how you always see chunks of carrots in your puke and wonder how they got there (because you weren't eating the night before)?

Apparently that's your stomach lining.

Mmmmm. Carroty.

Not really a whole lot to add as a lot of good sense has been spoken so far: re-hydration is of course key and most people seem to have a few other little noogies that work for them to varying degrees (vitamins, raising blood sugar with soft drinks the morning after, restoring electrolytes, taking painkillers, milk thistle to assist a liver that's taken a battering, loading up on fried food etc.). For me? I’ve found that a brief but vigorous cycle ride (the 3 miles to work or more likely around to the shops to buy ibuprofen!) really blasts the cobwebs away although understandably it's about the last thing you feel like doing after a night out on the lash. Sadly, I’d have to concur that hangovers get tougher to bear as you get older and at the grand age of 32 I’ve found that I’ve little appetite for oblivion in the way I had when I was younger. I still suffer an absolute peach every now and then and there is something oddly enjoyable about them – a kind of calm at the eye of the storm – but it’s debatable if it outweighs the unpleasant aspects.

I've never been able to face hair of the dog but a doctor friend once told me there is good science behind it (I’m guessing it's competitive inhibition with the enzymes that break down alcohol but what do I know) partly through a need to lay off drinking for a little while after a heavy night and partly that I've never managed to grow to like bloody marys which always seemed to me to have the texture of pureed human flesh.

Geiginni - it's a shame you are missing out on red wine - this is one of the very greatest drinking pleasures there is and one I enjoy more as I get older, if you get headaches consuming just a small amount then this may be of interest to you.

Wow! Thanks for all the good advice and tips.

I'm 24 and drink everyday (alcoholic unfortunately). And my hangovers are consistently getting worse and worse. So bad I can't do anything all day. Just watch tv and zone out. And dealing with people is out of the question. I've had people look at me when I was really really hungover and be like "Hey buddy... you all right?". Yeah, it's like that!

And what is really weird is when I'm really hungover, and I smoke a cigeratte; it intensifies the hangover exponentially. It feels like the end of the world. I do smoke, and smoke alot when I'm drinking. But I don't understand why this happens.

The only thing that is a for sure hangover killer/preventor is if I take a little bit of xanax before I go to sleep. Just like a 1/4 of a bar or so. I have anxiety problems too, and it helps with that as well. I don't know if xanax is such a good idea for me though, because I have had grand mal seizures before and might be epeleptic. I don't know. Any feedback?
I could have been a contender...

I sincerely think you need some help. And from someplace besides the Electrical message board.

Ever wake up with a headache so bad that it feels like a pig shit in your head? Someone asked me this once and I honestly had no idea how to respond. Has anyone ever had a pig shit in their head before? I mean, has this ever been documented?
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!

A) I know I have a problem

B) I'm not looking for pity, I'm looking for feedback/advice that maybe I could use to help myself

C) That post before mine was really funny! pig shit!
I could have been a contender...

Hey XBangyrdead,

I don't think Mr. Stack was trying to show pity, as that doesn't seem to be his style. I think he was expressing concern and hinting that rehab may be the best decision. The folks here have empathy over sympathy, but realistically aren't trained to give you the advice that you may need, cold and hard as it may be.

I guess if you wanna stick with us for advice (god help you if you do) I'd contact some of the hombres that have had the same addiction problems and see what they did (mooliachi/the Dragon etc.) before going and seriously getting some professional help.

best,
Faiz
