The match stick method is a good quick rough fix, for a more long lasting and cleaner fix, make a mixture of saw dust and wood glue/putty (the nitrocellulose and acrylic based ones work best - Elmers or Zar) - fill it into the hole with a small putty knife, ocasionally poking it with a toothpick to let out trapped air, let it dry, sand it, drill a small guide hole, then put your strap screw back in. Good as new. More solid than the matchstick method.

If you're feeling really ambitious, you can make a wood plug.

...andthis guy prefers the toothpick method.

Lots of different ways to do it. Good luck.

Bridge differences too? Not sure on the basses.

also the serial number will begin with an M.

like MN8, means mexican, 1998. that's what mine is. pretty simple code. N for ninety, E for eighty, Z for zero, etc.

the bridges are mostly the same as older, "vintage" fenders.

the americans have a string thru body bridge, which is lame. never seemed to do much for the sustain and was a contributing factor in me breaking a lot of strings.

that's just too sharp an angle for a high stress point of a string. i mean, that's where i hit it.

badass bridges increase sustain, but people say the heavy bridge takes some of the bass out. i don't know about that. i never noticed anything.

you can find 'em used for about $25. they pop up on talkbass.com all the time.

if it is an american you can get a badass III bridge which drops right in, and lets you have the option of string thru body or string thru bridge. i broke a lot less strings with a badass III on my MIA p-bass.
buy my guitar. now with pictures!
