Gave them a not crap vote.

I just saw this band open up the for the Hold Steady. They were very proficient and had a few songs that i dug, but overall i found it kind of dull & math-rocky.

I can't say they're crap though. They were good players & seemed to be into what they were doing. Just didnt move me at all.

I feel the same way about the "not moving" part. I say this especially in regard to their drummer, who I know for a fact can bring it about a million times more than he did when I just saw them at the Bottle for the J Robbins benefit a couple weeks ago. It's not a case of "he is holding back to serve the song and lock the groove", to my ears... it was a case of "he is criminally underplaying the song to the point where it's much less interesting than it should be."

Shame on you, Chris. Bring it at least a *little*.

That being said, I can't vote CRAP on them either. They have some great catchy hooky stuff. The vocals are a million times better than they were compared to the stuff I heard when the band was first forming. I think it's because they dropped them down about six octaves.

I was massively impressed by guitarist who doesn't sing. That fucker was playing some great stuff. They all were, more or less, but he was certainly the guy who struck me as "wow".
