btw, I remember you said you fixed a c37, cause steve used it on a snare. the capsule got exploded because of the high SPL, or the drummer just whacked it?

There is a recessed pattern select switch in the rear of the mic (windscreen), which is a turned with a small flat head tweeker. This screw head also carries the + voltage to the capsule.
The drummer beat the windscreen into the back of that screw head, shorting it to ground.
I simply bent back the mangled wreck.

I remember this mic. What knuckle dragger managed to hit it? I mean, your aim would have to be WAY off, it barely hung maybe a 1/2" over the rim when it was setup for my kit.

drummers...
btw, when a band is breaking a certain piece of equipment. do they pay for that?
let's say that they blew a ribbon or dropped a mic and completely screwed it, should they pay?

Not unless they do it on purpose. That is one of the reasons why a good studio cost a lot to record in.

Problem-
Studer A820MCH (blacksides) had low syc playback level on tracks 10 and one other (discovered while calibrating).

Solution-
Bad electrolytic caps replaced in a NRS control card and Repro card.

2 blown Coles 4038s inspected, blown.

Partial design of "IcantbelieveIhavetomakethisfuckingthing"TM output buffer amp array for the Digidesign 192HD.

Lomo 19-9 mic missing set screw to hold the connector in place.

Problem-
Studer A820MCH (studio A): Main power supply cap popped. This cap is a 68,000uF 63v electrolytic coke can with two threaded nipples. The replacement from Studer is about $150! I am looking to buy from the manufacturer. There is nothing like it available "off the shelf."
I want to buy 3 to recap the supply. We'll see.

Solution-
- The original manufacturer, Frako hasn't made a cap in over 15 years. All the ones I've found have been a tiny bit too large. SOAB

2/26/7 -
Found current manufacturer of these caps. They are roughly half the price of the part from Studer. They require a minimum order of 32 pieces however, so I'm looking for people to share the order with. Anyone interested? You'll need them if you have an A820 or A827.

Problem-
Sennheiser 441 dead.

Solution-
I could trace the signal off the capsule to the metal cylinder (transformer?) in the middle. The sound disappears there.
Sennheiser sending replacement "capsule" which is almost everything. They say they would have replaced it anyway, then charge us $85+ more than just doing it myself. This mic retails for over $750. the parts I'm receiving cost about $430. It isn't that great a mic.
3/1/7 Replaced guts of the 441, the mic works now.

RCA 74 blown ribbon off to Enak.

Jcm800- rewetted all solder joints on the circuit board. Tested it to try to cause it to fail.

Problem-
Neotek Series II "white" solos not functioning on a couple channels.

Solution-
Reseated those channels. They work now.

Recapped following cards for the Studer A820 MCH (blacksides) to fight "remote shuttle value invalid" error message that pops up occasionally (even after remote replaced).
-Serial Remote Control
-Communications Control

Some Furman headphone cables checked.

Recapped 3 Studer A820 repro cards that were sitting on the shelf for a while. They were rolling off the low frequencies for sync head playback at one point (replaced with spares). Suspect caps were C-6 and C-15. Both have the sync playback signal passing through them. When these caps go bad their value (in Farads) decreases. In this case, they roll off low end at a higher frequency like a high pass filter. Kind of like this-

If you imagine "R" being the input impedance of the next bit of circuitry instead of a resistor.
