not crap
enjoyable, sometimes almost rocking beatle stuff.

12The posthumus From a Basement on the Hill has been in pretty steady play around the house, and I am not tiring of it.

13Not crap, though I find his songwriting style academic. I own a couple of his records, but rarely find myself moved to put him on.

14absolutely life changing and not even in the same ballpark as anything close to being crap.
academic????

15Not crap. Although, I am terribly unmotivated to buy any of his albums. Life is depressing enough without having a competent singer/songwriter make it seem even worse.

16So....Im sitting here trying to feel sleepy...and Im listening to "Georgia" by Elliott Smith...and Im just thinking about the seven people that have voted crap on this poll. Regardless of what genre of music you like...I just dont understand how anyone with any sense of what it means to be a human being with feelings can not at least be casually drawn to this music...
Georgia - Elliott Smith
"georgia georgia
it's been many miles
since i've seen your foggy smile
close up and personal
your arsenal of excuses
you never told her
when you walked out on the savannah shoulder
with your veins all full of beer
thinking well at least now everything is clear
but oh man
what a plan
suicide
it's just not that much different from my own affair
it all ends in cussing and crying
how about if you
tell me something new
tell me what will make you happy
oh you
so deserve to be
there were protests and contests
attitudes to cop
i want it all to stop
three weeks ago you were all grace and charm
and now i know it was just a false alarm
georgia georgia
i can't understand your sins
you have no forgiveness
no attention left to pay
the quiet way you leave
and just forget it all
just takes my breath away
how's that supposed to make me feel?
yeah, well, how'm I suppossed to feel?"

17So not crap!
I like all the records. The first three ones are the best and the selftitled record just kills me. It´s probably the most intimate piece of music i ever listened too. The song "alphabet town" makes me weep instantly, whenever i hear it.

It´s such a fine line between stupid and clever.

18I'm not a fan, and admittedly I don't own any of his records, but Elliot Smith was good. Furthermore, I like the "Needle in the Hay"/suicide sequence in the Royal Tennenbaums quite a lot. That was an impeccable choice of music on Anderson's part. (Too bad a lot of Wes' other choices for music smack of arbitariness.) So yeah, Elliot Smith: If you put him on I wont object, but I tend to like his music in small doses.

i agree, in a movie that was easy to despise here and there, that scene got me and i'm sure it had plenty to do with the elliot smith... also it just looked great.
i think elliot smith was great... and i mean, GREAT.
GREAT!

Yeah, it was exceptionally well edited, but the ES song gave it just the right impact (and i generally don't even like music in movies).
