i agree, in a movie that was easy to despise here and there, that scene got me and i'm sure it had plenty to do with the elliot smith...
I opened this thread to say just that. The last line of the last verse -- "so leave me alone, you oughta be proud 'cause I'm getting good markssssssss" -- is some kind of exemplar of how incredible sadness and anger can be conveyed very quietly.
Other than that, kinda meh and often overly twee to my ears except for a few standouts like "St. Ides Heaven" and "Junk Bond Trader." The piano at the beginning of the latter tends to induce severe Elton John flashbacks, but a great song even so. Not crap, high WF.
