as for Nick Drake...
i like Pink Moon quite a lot. the "straightforwardness" of it. but wasn't very interested in the other stuff i heard. too much instrumentation happening. didn't seem to really "belong" to the songs i guess? whatever...

43elliott smith and nick drake both played acoustic guitar. outside of that i dont really understand the comparisons.
i like both artists very much but to me their music is worlds apart.

It´s such a fine line between stupid and clever.

48I just bought New Moon. It is NC.
I never listened to ES back in the 90's because I thought it was for angsty teens.
I was being stupid. I bought my first ES album (Either/Or) about a year ago and loved it. I have most of his albums now and he is one of my all time favorites. He is good even when he is on a major, which is a real accomplishment.
For my money, Elliot Smith is one of the most Not Crap artists of all time.

I don't see how insulting who you think his audience is makes his music bad, although it's your prerogative if you want to assert your individuality by separating yourself from "stupid white college kids" and people who listen to "Gus Van Sant soundtracks" by hating Elliot Smith.
That was basically what I was saying I did in the 90's that I now think was stupid. It's just that we had different interpretations of who his audience was.
I like it, you don't. Whatever.
