i looked it up and thought you were crazy when i saw it was only $111.75 on musicians friend! then i realized i'm stupid and was just looking at the extra foot controller for it...yes, they are expensive...and i'd gotten all worked up over getting one...

I probably have posted this before...my current bass rig (sans tuner) is:

P-bass->Sans Amp Bass Driver->Home made mosfet booster (think SHO)->modded Tube Screamer->Boss DD-6->Traynor YBA-3->Ampeg SVT-410HLF

The only thing on the whole time is the Sans Amp...although I'm thinking about making a dual booster pedal like the super duper and keeping one on all time time and using the other for, well, boost.

The demo tracks we have on our myspace have pretty much this same chain, but with a YBA-1A through a Mesa/EV 1x15. On the new record we are doing, I split the signal with the DD-6 and go stereo through two YBA-3's. One is mine with 6550's and the other is Scott's with EL34's. The 6550 amp goes to my 410 and the EL34 amp goes to a 2x15 EV cab. It sounds ridiculous.

those are thumb picks right? seems kinda cool but i'm not sure if i'd be able to pick as hard as i like to. and a barrage of all downstrokes would seem tricky. and even really fast back back and forth picking.

interesting though, so now i have to pick some up on my way home.

Yeah...they are. I'm pretty sure that I don't use them the way that they're supposed to be used. I mean, 90% of the time I'm still holding it like a regular pick. Plus I usually "modify" (i.e., bend the fucker) till it fits exactly the way I want on my thumb. It took a little while to get used to them, but once I did I wouldn't use anything else. Oh, and they're great for when you want to do harmonic octave type stuff because you can pluck the strings but you still have the pick attack.
Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.

0. No effects on bass at all.

Bass is an anchor for everything else, including drums. I have never personally come across a situation where anything but plugging direct to board was necessary, much less using pedals. A bass amp is usually nothing more than a monitor to me. Floors should shake.

Hmph.

Play guitar if you want to impress with the number of notes or effects you can accomplish. Bass is emphasis for drums. There are always exceptions, but I always just wanted vibration. Pressure drop.
