A couple weekends ago I bought an old MXR Analog Delay pedal from a guy who claimed he was "sponsored by Monster Cable." Awesome.

2I do not normally think guitar cables matter that much. "Transparency," "punch," "soundstage," "presence" -- whatever. I have always been happy if they passed signal, and have bigger problems to solve. I have had a few experiences with Monster guitar cables (guitar cables collect in studios like lint in a navel, so there are some lying around) that I would like to share:
1) Their 1/4-inch jack connectors have sharp shoulders on the tip contacts, and do not fit comfortably into some sockets. They are unique in this problem. I have had to resort to an unreasonable amount of horking tension to remove them from some sockets, and I think this is profoundly stupid design.
2) The sleeve of their jacks seems slightly smaller in diameter (I haven't measured because I'm lazy) and this makes them prone to poor contact in many of our amplifiers.
3) I have had several amplifiers squal like bastards when used in high-gain situations with Monster guitar cables (Hiwatt, Sound City, Orange and old Marshall). Twice now, I have heard a horrible scream from an amplifier over the control room speakers and correctly diagnosed from a distance that the guitar player has just plugged-in a Monster cable.
So, from a professional I-need-to-get-on-with-making-the-record standpoint, fuck Monster guitar cables.
I really should throw them away, but it never occurs to me after a session is over, although I may now go and do it.

I have no opinion about their Hi Fi products or their speaker cables, unless they use the same bullshit non-standard jack, in which case, fuck them in the eye.

3We've come to the same exact conclusion about Monster Cable connectors. I've had MC plugs literally fall apart in my hands. The cable might be OK but their jacks are garbage. Seems strange they would charge premium prices for that stuff. Overpriced garbage.
for what it's worth - I buy a lot of Canare cable from Markertek.com which I love. Star Quad design for low noise and I like their connectors. Plus you can buy it in lot's of cool colors. And the type of rubber jacket they use doesn't kink up like cheaper brands.

4don't you guys know, all the cool kids are using wireless network adaptors to transmit all their audio info at this point. i mean, c'mon, get with the program already. bluetooth and shit.

5I toooooo have had Monster problems with Monster cable. I bought a "Premium" cable at guitar center because it had a Craftsman like guarantee. If and when it gets screwy return for a new one for life. Wellll...I'm on my forth cable in five months!! The ends of the jacks just snap off inside of my Parker. And when they're not snapping off they''re struggling to remain in the jack and constantly slipping out!! They suck but i have a life time waranty. I'm cursed.

7I've used the same set of monster cables for almost three years now and haven't had a problem with them as well. From what I know now, I most likely wouldn't buy any more (thanks for the learning), but i've had nothing but happy times. If I were to buy other "high end" instrument cables what would you suggest? Mogami? What're the other brands?

Line 6 products are confusing to me. I bought the Fender and Marshall instead.

10hmmm....this thread was an interesting read. I've had two 12 inch long monster cabels for quite some time now and i've never had a problem with them.
Maybe it something to do with them just being pedal to pedal cables so they aren't moved around much.
