142Apparently Obama's religion is under attack.
I've heard two critiques, from very different sides:
1. A Canadian friend-of-a-friend who complained that Obama's christianity is a downside (he makes the valid point of "why the hell do all of your american politicians need to be Christian in order to get elected")
2. The right-wing, who have begun to spread the nonsense claim that he couches his religious beliefs in a "coven" of "radical separatists."
Look at this crapola
Looks like Fox shrewdly picked out an african american religious zealot who they figured would be "politically qualified" to critique a black church. Wtf. I'm more annoyed that this morning, Ben Calhoun on NPR described Hannity & Colmes as something like the "Conservative-cop, Liberal-cop talk show," as if it didn't carry a heavy right-wing bias. How fair of him. Although he might have meant that H&C see "Liberal cop" as "Bad Cop" or whatever.
Btw, Erik Rush also supports the "peaceful annexation of Mexico."

143I like the Al Gore-ish cadence Obama trots out when he's trying to be profound and inspiring.
And by "like" I mean hate.
So phony.

144Obama's church is probably CRAP. As are most churches. However, churches have played such a signifacant role (as community centers) in the black civil lib movement that I tend to feel more tolerant.
Erik Rush seems like a jizz mop.

The thing that blows is that this church's activities for black civil lib end up being used against it politically as a means of slinging mud at Obama. It's a not-so-subtle way of right wing media twisting civil lib rhetoric into the words of an "evil" organization. It's total shit.

146Barack, don't be so naive.
Dude, even if you personally wash every member of AIPAC's car, that isn't even going to make it to the discussion level. The five phases of the plan are sacrosanct. They are, in order:
P1- Bank owns house.
P2- Bank writes mortgage for house. Debtor believes this means he owns a house.
P3- Bank collects mortgage payments for as long as debtor can keep up. Debtor can in fact someday own house this way. He will need to overcome a minimum of two recessions along the way to maintain his grip on the house.
P4- Or maybe debtor can't. Maybe debtor will miss payment and give house back to bank.
P5- Bank takes back house, puts new debtor on new payment plan.
Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) today sent a letter to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke urging him to create a "homeownership preservation summit" to fight foreclosure.
"There is grave concern in low-income communities about a potential coming wave of foreclosures," Obama wrote. "We cannot sit on the sidelines while increasing numbers of American families face the risk of losing their homes. And while neither the government nor the private sector acting alone is capable of quickly balancing the important interests in widespread access to credit and responsible lending, both must act and act quickly."

147anyone see obama on letterman last night?
even though it may have been a rerun, I was impressed.
re: credentials, I think one example of his leadership is his ability to raise all that money in such a short time. the guy's probably a good manager, delegates to smart people and can get things done.
in comparison, the others are just part of the machine, that has been built up over time. generally one's ability to raise funds should only indicate how corrupt they are, but in this instance, since no one in the democratic leadership wanted him to run, yet he still beat clinton in fundraising, seems to show that the man is a good leader.

Not part of the machine my ass.
"Obama's biggest single source of corporate money - $160,000 - came from executives at Exelon Corp., the nation's largest nuclear power provider, and its subsidiary, Commonwealth Edison, an Illinois utility," the Times reports.
ComEd, of course, is also one of the biggest supporters of Emil Jones, whom Barack Obama calls his political mentor and who just used a parliamentary maneuver to keep the utility's controversial rate hike on track.
(The Rockford Register Star says: ComEd has been one of Jones' top two campaign contributors. In 2005, according to Crain's Chicago Business, Jones was the guest of honor at a fundraiser at the home of ComEd President Frank Clark. Crain's reported that the event generated about $127,000 in donations for Jones' campaign, with at least $78,000 of the contributions coming from dozens of executives and board members with ComEd and parent company Exelon Corp., as well as ComEd and power industry lobbyists.")
"Exelon spent $500,000 to influence policy in Washington last year," the L.A. Times report says. "Although Obama took no money from Exelon's Washington lobbyists, he accepted $1,000 checks from lobbyists John P. Novak and James Monk of Springfield. In Springfield, Novak represents Exelon., and Monk is president of the Illinois Energy Assn., a trade group that represents Commonwealth Edison.
"In Tallahassee, Obama held a fundraiser attended by several statehouse lobbyists, taking checks from lobbyists for trial attorneys, the insurance industry, fast-food chains and sugar cane growers. State and federal issues often are related, as noted by the law firm Akerman Senterfitt, whose Florida-based members donated $7,000 to Obama. On its website, Akerman notes it combines Tallahassee connections with 'an involved federal political action committee' to provide its clients 'with an enviable level of access.'"
"In his column on the Commentary page on Monday, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) wrote: 'To set an example in the in the 2008 presidential election, I am refusing to accept campaign contributions from registered lobbyists, political-action committees, and I won't take contributions bundled by lobbyists.' A spokesman for his campaign clarified that the policy of Obama's campaign is to not accept contributions from registered federal lobbyists. He is accepting contributions from registered state lobbyists."

Just to play devil's advocate, what's wrong with being sheisty in politics? How else is he supposed to get the ungodly amounts of money required to campaign, the likes of which you and I will probably never see in our lifetimes? I don't care if he's getting money from the Klan as long as he doesn't return the favor once in office. Plus to be really objective you have to allow the possibility that those nuke people that are backing him really want to see a positive change in the world, even though they may be part of a corporation that may threaten our existence.
Don't waste your time trying to argue how wrong my points may be, because as I said, I'm just sayin'.
