Battles Atlas
41I am disapointed and I havn't even heard it yet. First I heard about it and got excited, now reading this thread burst that bubble. To bad

yeah it probably is lame statement, i was merely implicating evidence of a rebranded marketing appeal, touching along the grounds of something like a situation if marilyn manson was dressed in fubu to appeal to a "urban" market it'd create some confusion among the aesthetic which is unavoidably created.

I only own one, which I keep only for use in hypothetical future rock video shoots.

Don't you mean a hypothetical self-rebranding for marketing appeal?

Normally I would interpret these "self-rebranding" types of comments regarding a band like Battles as comically overheated rhetoric from fans that want their faves to never change. In this case, they might have something.
This Battles song really does bite heavily on the Animal Collective*. The repetitive "tribal" drumming, the super-tweaked vocals, the happy, bouncy overall vibe of the song... And it does so in a way that does seem calculating.
And there is a market for it. Not a Mars Volta-sized market, but the A.C. are doing well for themselves these days.
*I'm referring to the more recent, CRAP stuff. I still think that the Animal Collective records up to and including Here Comes The Indian are unique-sounding and really good.
