man, i tried to make the point you're all making a few night ago on a different web forum (which is known as a hang-out for popular "indie" music bloggers) and i had my ass handed to me by people telling me i was wrong when i stated, "isn't it time to say this isn't "indie" anymore?" and then followed it up with a logical in-depth response.

so...yeah. thank you all for your insight and for making me feel better about what i said

Yes, I can totally see why paying $25 to see sonic youth and de la soul and grizzly bear and fifteen other bands would be so horrible, when you could spend twice as much to see the stooges at the shitty congress theatre.

or last year, when you could see Os Mutantes, Yo La Tengo, Mission of Burma, Silver Jews, and ten other bands out in the warm summer sun for half the price of a stooges ticket in the dank, shitty and horrible sounding congress theatre. those assholes.

Or the year before, where you could see Deerhoof, Wrens, Dungen, LEs Savy Fav and ten other band for half the price of a Stooges ticket in the boomy, crappy Congress Theatre.

this is me, snoring.

that's totally different. that's like tower records charging 5.99 for a smiths album. it's practically panhandling.

"Indie" is just another "buzzword" as far as I'm concerned. It has become an ambiguous label, like Punk Rock was a few years ago. What will be the next 'subversive' form of music to be exploited? Any predictions?

This is completely idiotic. Using corporate chain stores and MTV to promote "Indie" music? I hope that major labels will realise the oxymoronic nature of "Independent Rock Music" on major labels and abort this exploitable trend that they're pushing. What next? Oh god... What next?

Are we all missing the point slightly? Who cares if they put this abysmal CD together? Don't all the kids download their stuff these days, doing various searches across various on-line pages / forums / search engines?

This CD sounds to me like it's marketed at 30 to 40-somethings desperate to impress junior work colleagues with their sense of still having a grip on the underground scene "man". Their junior work colleagues will laugh at them, they will go home and curse the day they bought into this "independent, underground" music and go back to listening to their Sisters of Mercy records - proving themselves to be more "hip" anyway. Suicides will ensue. Rome will fall. The coupon will be void if removed.

No more fucking threads that begin with a long quote from Pitchfork

That would be a fine rule by me.

(I never even heard of Pitchfork until I met you kids, anyhow... the only time I am ever even reminded of its existence is when someone posts something here from it and then starts bitching about it... if it displeases you like that, then ignore it, and maybe it will go away? Or even if it don't, then just accept that it wasn't geared towards you in the first place, and accept that it exists for the entertainment of others? I dunno...)

In short, I wouldn't miss hearing about it one bit.
