Man or Astro-man. First independent band I ever saw. I was twelve at the most and somehow found my way into The Casbah while I was sleeping over at a friend's house who lived behind the venue. I was just getting into skateboarding, so of course I loved surf rock. I was also a kid, so Sci-Fi comes with the territory. I thought they had to be from New York or LA. When I found out they were from Mars Hill, North Carolina (thirty minutes away) my mind was blown. "But they're in a rock band. How can they be from a small town?" Says my twelve year-old mind. That is why I love Man or Astro-man. I don't see any band being more important to me than they were and still are. Ever.

7Propagandhi. Haters can burn and rot in hell. I get goosebumps every time they release a new record, because it will most likely be my new favorite album of all time. First band that really made me go..."fuck." The politics were the first of its kind that I was exposed to, and thoroughly changed my life. I don't listen to this band all the time, in fact I go months without listening to them...but I'll always go back to them.
