The new Deerhunter is good for all that noise and shit. One of the guitar players has a Space Echo and he puts it to good use.

Other than that, I second Boris. Or just slow-to-the-core stoner rock like Sleep or Weedeater.

David Bowie's Low is pretty cool, too. Side B has all the awesome shit that fueled electronic and new wave.

I can't suggest Aframes enough. Any album of their's is a good'n.

And of course, The Stooges have that sonic assualt your looking for, too.

I feel like this all the time. You nailed it, man. I find myself looking more and more for an apparently dwindling pool of music that works for me. I'm not sure if it is the 'pool' of cool music, or my ability and drive to look for it that is dwindling, though...

Have you heard Torche? I heard one album at a party recently, and it sounded like a great take on the often boring (my opinion, of course) 'stoner rock' thing. 'Stoner rock' is even boring stoned, for crying out loud. Drink some coffee, for chrissakes...

Enon's first album, believo, or John Stuart Mill's John Stuart Mill.

The Thrones- Alraune. The last release, A Day Late, a Dollar Short is a collection of B-sides and unreleased stuff that is also fantastic. The Thrones are really just Joe Preston of Earth and Melvins fame.

Also try Dead Meadow's Howls from the Hills, or something by Lightning Bolt.

Cocteau Twins if you don't already listen to them.

If you want something shoegazey like the last MBV record try Lenola's The Swerving Corpse, which is more on the Polvo end of the spectrum, or Twin Atlas's Kitchen U.S.A.

I find the best way to scratch this kind of itch is to go straight to the label that one of your more rewarding findings is on. You can be virtually certain that there will be more stuff that stokes your soundpipe on their books. Unless you go poking around the Geffen site. If that's what you plan on doing, you get what you deserve.

Thanks for the heads-up.

kickerofelves, I recently picked up a CD by Microwaves called Contagion Heuristic on Crucial Blast. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. Metal meets noise-rock by way of Ralph Records? Quite good.

Go buy any Tar or Uzeda you can find. Seriously. And also look for Floor - "Dove." And then you can consider buying the Torche record. Really, Tar - "Jackson" and "Over and Out" are two absolutely incredible records. All of the Uzeda is fantastic. And buy Bellini - "Small Stones" as well. Very few bands make music as good as Bellini's.

I'm off to go try and return this shitty Sunn O))) abomination and get something worthwhile. I bought it on a misinformed impulse on Sunday, and now I must DEMAND SATISFACTION and seek VENGEANCE upon the record store which stocks this drivel.

I want something I've not heard before. Preferably with experimental noises, ambiance, something beautiful. I can't stop listening to the Melvins, AMM, and early Sonic Youth--this may be a basis for recommendations. Obscure jazz or math rock would also be great.

Tar? Uzeda? Art Ensemble of Chicago? AN UNFORESEEN VARIABLE?(!)

I am clearly an idiot and need guidance. I don't want to get another piece of shit with 12 pages of an upside-down tree as the 'liner notes'. Incentive: I'm still young so I may find the record that changes my life. It's been too long since I first heard Loveless, you know?

Or you could list albums you'd like to shag.

PS - My apologies if anyone here is associated with the production of this record.

Whitehouse, DNA, Khanate?

Just kidding, don't buy any music by these bands.

00 Void, the Grimm Robe Demos and Flight of the Behemoth are all OK Sunn albums, but the rest of their stuff is a joke. Even those records are essentially living off someone elses ideas, but still good if you've got a good sound system and the patience to let the doom sink in.

Boris is an endless archive of other peoples music played again through a japanese filter, some is awesome. They've definitly stepped up from their doom laden drone and fuzzed noise attacks with some of their more recent stuff, but they seem to release an album every four or five minutes so who can keep up.

Check out The Punks and Burning Star Core for utter crap and Metal Music Machine by Jazkamer, maybe Flying Saucer Attack or Fennesz?
The Residents might change your life in the most tiny way like Tago Mago. I could get raped with a pike for saying this but I quite enjoy some M83 and a fan of loveless could enjoy small amounts too...but that could be wrong. Um, 1 mile north and labradford.

Man I really really like White 1, White 2, and Black 1. All three are consistently in rotation in the headphones while I am at work.

Fair dues, I personally can't listen to any of those records all the way through without wanting to end myself. White 1 is the worst, White 2 is half and half and I just plain hate Black 1.

Altar is sort of good at times, some of it is great, but it gets pretty bad in the back half.
