Sorry if there is already a thread discussing The Ex. I tried searching and found nothing.
Anyway, I've been meaning to acquaint myself with this band for a while now but am not sure where to start. The older releases seem to be out of print or otherwise hard to find, so I've been looking around on ebay and have encountered some pretty steep prices.
So, which titles should I seek out first? Any I should avoid?

I have Starters & Alternators, Dizzy Spells, Joggers and Smoggers and the touch and go singles album.They're all great. The only album I didn't like so much is Turn. From memory it uses a recipe for a pie as a metaphor. Gutsy!

I love and have practically everything they've put out, but if you want to start with something start with 'blueprints for a blackout'. I think that's a good place to begin, no?

It is sublime.

And the sweet potato pie is wonderful if you put it to the test.

As Clortho said, Starters Alternators is a very good choice for a first Ex album - easily the best of the Touch and Go releases, I would say.

Dizzy Spells is also good, but it is less consistent - not a solid block of mega-awesome songs like Starters Alternators is.

If you can find it, I'd heartily recommend the 1991 release Scrabbling at the Lock with cellist Tom Cora. While it might seem like some kind of novelty guest one-off project at first glance, it is actually a collection of kick-ass Ex songs which also have some awesome cello playing. My favorite Ex record (although I have also not heard them all - there are just too many).

You know, I even read the "how-to" threads on searching the forum - and I still didn't come up with anything in my search. I'd better go back and re-read and practice.
Anyway, thanks all for humoring me despite my unnecessary new thread.
