i've only heard pink, and I gotta say, there's that tune at the beginning that starts of like old U2, with the pretty harmonics washed with tons of delay- then it kicks into some fuzzy shoegaze sounding metal stew. that's alright, but none of the other tracks are the least bit like this one, which is a good thing i suppose, but then none of the other tracks are as memorable as this first slow-metal-shoegazey-U2 cover sounding song. forgettable. boring.
thick? no. not really. just sounds like a big muff to me and some delay on a les paul. maybe it's double-tracked, maybe not. snore.
maybe I will change my mind hearing this amplifier worship spoken of on the board, but at this phase i am going to nominate them for a crap vote.

32Pink is not terribly interesting.
Akuma no Uta? Awesome.

33I've recently gotten to hear this band and I have to say I like what I hear.
I like the double neck bass / guitar thing too.

34Pink was the first one I got into, it kinda reminded me of an early Smashing Pumpkins, except Boris do it a lot better.
Amplifier Worship, Heavy Rocks, Mabuta No Ura, and Akuma No Uta are fantastic records.

Akuma No Uta (the one with the mock-bryter layter cover) is very cool. heavy and psychadelic. six songs, forty minutes.
Recordings like "Amplifier Worship" and "Feedbacker" are really slow droney metal. i guess what they call doom metal?
i think doom metal is more like death metal with keyboards, synths and all kinds of space-y stuff.

36Feedbacker and Absolutego are great records. But still, their schtick is wearing. All these Japanese band wearing their love for other bands as medals, we wouldn't put up with it from English/Yank bands, seems sorta patronising to take it from another country's bands.

38just discovered this band, thanks to the "ea sendspace thread" where someone posted the thing which solomon overlooked.... much thanks to whoever posted it.
i really like them. i especially enjoyed the non-distortion tracks, "an another after image" and "leviathan".... but the distorted stuff is cool too. the distorted guitar tones remind me of neurosis.
ive always had this thing for playing mp3s in winamp and watching the wave move around in the "oscilliscope" and trying to sense a link between the sound of the audio and the visual behavior of the wave in the oscilliscope. i must say that i had lots of fun doing this for boris songs.

39i think they're kind of inbetween crap and not crap.
even though i do quite like a lot of similar bands, eg sunn/melt banana/boredoms etc etc etc
i just can't see what the big deal about boris is.
pink has some alright tracks on it, and some which are less than alright.
their split album with sunn is by far the weakest sunn album...

This is incorrect.
Any discussion of these musical subgenre labels is silly, but doom is generally slow tempo (exactly opposite of death metal), often in the extreme, and doesn't often indulge in the synths and keyboards and other stereotypically non-metal instrumentation. It's typically way, WAY downtuned and heavy.
