Not Crap. The minute details of the artisits who worked on this flim are incredible. The soundtrack is simply amazing. This film was also my first introduction to Japanese Animation, and although it took multiple viewings for me to really get it, now it is one of my favorite movies in the genre.

My girlfriend and I were both pretty messed up after watching the grave of the fireflies (she bought me the studio ghibli box set for my birthday a few yeras back).

The reason I say "highly possible" is because the only cartoons I have seen that can match akira are miyazaki/ghibli films, principally Laputa, which when I first saw it as a small kid, made a huge impression.

it's one of those, where if you're discussing films with someone and they've seen it too, they get a glazed over look and say, "yeah. i've seen that."

When Seita cut the wedge out of the melon and handed it to Setsuko I bit my lip and didn't let go until the end. The film really, really fucked me up.
