what do your parents think of your music?

Jimi Hendrix once walked into my Mother in a crowded club and almost knocked her over. She says that she thought he was 'big and ugly'.

During the late 60's/early 70's she claims to have 'fallen asleep' during concerts by:

Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett fronted)
Soft Machine
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath

To this day, she still complains about the specific films '200 Motels' ('I was like, what'?) and 'Death in Venice' ('this boring film about a man dying'), which my Dad also dragged her along to see, alongside many other films and bands. They divorced when I was very young.

The music i'm involved with, he attempts to be supportive but doesn't really get it at all, whilst I refuse to let my Mother hear it, even though she asks me about it often. It's the constant implication that music is always something which other people do, as if i'm merely pretending to do it or something, which I can't pretend doesn't upset me, as it's essentially my life at this point. Still, they accept it and I accept them likewise.

My mom heard me listening to the Beatles and told me to "turn down that noisy rock and roll!". no joke.

she really doesn't like...I can't say music, because she has fantastic taste in classical music and opera (which I do enjoy greatly as well)..but pretty much any drum and electric guitar-made sound.

when i was 15, i was listening to metallica - s&m. my parents liked it enough to ask me what it was.

my dad's quite into jazz, we both got miles davis albums at christmas, but my mum likes michael bublé and shania twain.

they've seen my brother's band a few times, kind of late-era incubus-esque rock. they saw my old post-rock band a couple of times, but never offered any opinion on it.

now i'm in a two piece violin and drums band they don't come to my gigs. they don't understand how i managed to go on tour or even how we get any gigs because "you can't even play the violin, can you?"

My Parents are awesome about the whole music thing.
The computer which is connected to the internet is at my dad's home office. he doesn't use it, so most of the time I use it. We always sit together in the room, back to back. He's doing his job and Im doing what im doing, while listening to music. He never complains, only when it's hard for him to concentrate, he's telling me to turn it down a bit. When Im listening to music with screaming vocals(like minor threat or so), he's telling me "ooh ooh! I like these guys! the guys who shout!" and then he starts mimicking them. With one band I was playing with which was a "local success" my parents came to almost every show. My dad drove half Israel for a show in some lousy festival. He's great. With my other band which I really liked and we played the kind of music I liked, my parents didn't have the chance to see us. That's because they're religious, and all of the gigs were on friday and/or saturday, at hours when they can't come to see us, since it's shabbat.
We were practicing alot in our house basement, and my parents were very supportive and hosting. My mom likes to sing and my dad says he was supposed to be a drummer, so one time they got down to the basement during a rehearsal, the three of us(band) were just talking, so my dad sat on the drums, my mom took the mic, and they started playing and singing. I laughed my ass off.

Thank you Shmuel and Daniella!
