i forgot to mention the DOD OD250 preamp/overdrive for those on the cheap.
it ain't bad and don't suck too much low end. works ok as a mic-pre for certain applications.

62i could never get the bass distortion i wanted out of a pedal, i don't think any of them had the right eq, or ended up sounding fizzy - the best sound i got was running my bass into my ashdown head, then using it's line out to go into a 50-watt pa head turned up to max going through a 4x10. it got very bassy, very overdriven. maybe not very very loud, but alright if you're going to be miced up.

63i always say the marshall gov'nor (original black one) is awesome, but recently i have started to use the effects loop input adding an eq into the thing, its made a world of difference being able to get rid of the shit freq's without fucking up the clean sound when you need it.
i love this pedal...

64The Company T-Rex makes a great bass distortion pedal. It isn't cheap, but it is worth the dough.

65I read about a rat pedal mod recently that would sound good for bass and is really easy. you just have to clip one resistor, no soldering needed.
http://www.diyguitaramp.com/rat.html
Apparently it makes it more of an overdrive than a distrotion and allows more bottom end to come through. There is a similar mod where you can add a potentio meter in it's place for more control over the sound. from what I can gather it's kind of like adding a tone control to the pedal.
I'm gonna try it tonight...

66I recently bought a Crowther Prunes & Custard
It is awesome. Alot of squelch and character.
Combined with the Russian Big muff its a nice duo.

67Tech 21 GT-2 pedal has been my main bass distortion for years. I always end up going back to it. Of course, I always run a mildly clipping preamp at all times. I'm never really clean, ever.

68I found a pretty cool old solidstate Peavey Musician head (pre Mark series, I think) for cheap over at guitar center. Its got a weird sounding tremelo and fuzz, and sounds pretty good clean. 4x12 sounded good. I was thinking that pairing this with my 200 watt tube mesa-boogie and 15' speaker would give a little more definition at volumes where the mesa starts to distort.
By the way, the boss bass driver sounds pretty cool, but it gets lost in the mix pretty easily. If you're looking for an all out fuzz, look else where, but for a bit of grit, it sounds cool. The treble control is voiced kinda shittily as well.

That Assmaster better be fuckin' heaven for $255.00 + $7.00 for shipping. It better be able to get me off for that much. Oh, and the DS-1 is great for bass distortion. The MD-2's not bad either.

Really? That's interesting...
The only well-known player I know of who used this pedal was East Bay Ray, and that guitar sound of his had no bass really at all. Off that evidence, I would expect the thing to suck away bass like a vampire, but maybe it's just a matter of amp settings or your instrument.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.
