LA AUDIO GX2 GATE
DBX 266xl
DRAWMER DS201
Audio Design F300
any suggestions? or other to look for?
dbx 266xl and drawmer ds201 are quite famous, la audio gx2 is an interesting unit, Audio design f300 is unkown to google toto???????
everything is apprecieted!

2I had a Drawmer gate until recently, did the job as far as needed for my meagre purposes at least.

4The Drawmer 201 is clean and solid. It does exactly what you expect, which is probably as much as you can ask from a gate. The DBX x66 series of stuff doesn't sound all that good to my ears. If the Audio and Design unit is up to the standard of their other stuff it'll be great, but I'm not familiar with it specifically.

5i'm waiting that italian funky junk would answer to my mail about the audio design. I can't find any info on the internet, do you know their website?
the la audio is very similar to the drawmer but still hard to find some informations!

6Of the ones that you listed, I've found the Drawmer to be a very flexible and good, functional gate. If the Audio Design unit is anything like the expander/gate in the ADR Compex and Vocal Stresser, it's probably a very cool unit as well. I'm also a big fan of the highly-flexible and sonically neutral Aphex 612 and 622.

everyone with info on la audio and audio design is welcomed!
I would like to go with drawmer's but la audio looks very very nice and cheaper!

8i have the la audio GCX2, which is a two channel compressor/gate thing - reviewed by sound on sound here. it was pretty much the first bit of outboard gear i ever bought. it's a budget unit. an entirely no frills unexciting bit of kit that just works and doesn't do anything bad - better than the behringer units in the same price range.
the naming of these things has changed lots over the years so i'm not sure if the gx2 you're talking about is a dedicated gate thing or the same as my gcx2 thing, but in any case, the gates on mine are alright. very limited controls on the one i've got though - you couldn't do anything fancy or clever with it.

That's the Audio & Design website. They're basically a completely different company now. The Fxxx series stuff was only manufactured in the 70s (possibly into the 80s) and there's not a huge amount of info about it out there. I think the F300 was a module that you could put inside their 'Scamp' modular racking system which also had compressor and EQ modules available. If you don't have the opportunity to go and try them out before you buy, I'd go for the Drawmer. It's the safe choice since the functionality of the ADR unit is something of an unknown (although all their stuff seems to be very high quality.)

10thank you for your intervention anyway!
yes i'm refering to the gx2, it's a gate unit only, not a compressor/gate and they seem do not share anything between them. They look (and probably are) different kind of units.
the gx2 is a discontinued product and, about functions, it looks very similar to the drawmer, they both have low and high filter for selecting the freq. both can accept an external signal, the channel can be linked for stereo
