I would have come out swingin'

I've always loved "Bible Silver Corner" as an opener, then "Shiner" just rips everything apart for two minutes. The rest of the songs seem to try and create a halfway point between these extremes.

Oh yeah, I like this record more than Spiderland. I guess I'm insane.
I concur. The tracklist is so counterintuitive and backwards that it's genius. The first time I heard Rusty I was stoned out of my mind and was daydreaming to "Bible". Then "Shiner" came on and I shit my pants and realized this record was something special. That early association of calm and chaos really suspends expectations and demands my attention.

Spiderland maybe masters such dynamics. I guess I'd say Slint is more dear to me, but I listen to Rusty much more than Spiderland. Anywho, I'm rambling here. NOT CRAP. 1/3 a waffle because "Tooth Fairy Retribution Manifesto" sounds like a dismissed At The Drive-In title and is a kind of forgettable song.

At the time that they were around Rodan seemed like a pretty good deal. The 7" that predated 'Rusty' was genuinely exciting for the quiet mumbling types like myself in the local record shop, none of whom actually ever spoke to each other, but we all bought 'Rusty' and thought that it was cool. Haven't heard them for many, many years, but i'll still say NC.

CRAP.

I'd agree. Something about Rusty has always rubbed me the wrong way.

I like to refer to Rodan as Fratboy Slint.

Mostly because it sounds a little like Fatboy Slim.
