I don't know if anyone's mentioned Bowie yet.
He recovered from the overcooked, lamebrained disappointment of Diamond Dogs and the pieces of shit that were David Live and Young Americans through cracking his head open with a decade's supply of uncut Bolivian and recording the absolutely brilliant Station To Station (my favorite Bowie album) and the Berlin Trilogy. That's pretty good if you ask me.
