Most rap "music" sucks beyond comprehension, and it's a pretty laughable "artistic" endeavor. Furthermore, anything worth discussing in this genre took place well over a decade ago (with the exceptions of Edan, DMX and Eminem).

That being said, I consider Public Enemy's "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" to be my single most indispensible album, and there are a handful of worthy rap artists (ridiculous stage names notwithstanding). But let's not kid ourselves...

Pope - you're kind of missing the point. by naming it crap or not crap, you aren't immediately placing it outside in the dumpster. by saying Nirvana is crap, you have to average in the fact that they definitely sold out, kurt was definitely married to Courtney, BUT, Dave Grohl definitely played the drums, and they're songs are definitely pretty good.
The point of the game is that after evaluating every possible aspect of a band/artist (including your person opinions), averaging that all together, you decide whether it's crap or it isn't crap without justifying why you chose what you chose. It's pretty hard. Don't get all serious with your politic labels and call this a game of "elitist".
