They were quite good, one of the originals.

Not crap, but not really that great, either.

The first few albums were great. The last one that came out a few years ago, wasn't too bad either. When I saw them at the Empty Bottle a few years ago, they kicked ass.

I have Go Girl Crazy! and it never really did very much for me.

Perpetually underrated band. The Dictators Go Girl Crazy! and Bloodbrothers are both great, and their 2001 "comeback" album DFFD is surprisingly brilliant. The few times I've seen 'em live, they've been nothing less than stellar, and Handsome Dick Manitoba is a genius for the ages (not to mention the handsomest man in rock 'n' roll). 150% Not Crap.

Their early records are good-not-great, but I saw them live a few years ago--for free!--at the Bar-B-Q festival in Owensboro, Kentucky, and they were really, really great, particularly since they were playing on a flatbed truck to maybe 100 people, at least half of which were totally uncomprehending. But they played like I imagine they must have when Pasha the Pom saw them open for Bob Seger in Evansville in 1977.
