When I saw them live, this band was just utterly listless and unfocused. They did a cover of "Good Morning, Good Morning" that was so sloppy and half-assed. I suspect the band was really stoned or drunk. The guitarists were trading eye daggers for most of the set. If they had gotten in a fight it might have been an interesting performance.

Their recorded output is another story.

Does anybody have a rough idea of how they got their guitars to sound as they did? So awesome. Not the hugest fan of some of the lyrics, although phrases such as "Lazy Comet" more than make up for the misses.

Today's Active Lifestyles is my favorite album of theirs, followed by Cor-Crane Secret.

I have a credible friend who saw them twice (such good fortune!) -- He says they were dead-on precise both times. Given the difficulty level of the songs, I think this is admirable.

a bunch of it is alternate tunings. I posted some of the polvo tunings in the Alternate Tuning thread in the tech room.

I think their live pedal set up was pretty simple. DOD/Boss shit.

they could also play like wizards, so that helps.
kerble is right.

Polvo, to me, is the epitome of summer music. I remember riding bikes all summer with Cor Crane Secret blaring in my ear, and getting drunk for the first time while listening to Exploded Drawing. Consistently great, though they ended on sort of a downbeat note (yes, Faiz, we know, Shapes is their all time greatest). Anyway, an easy NOT CRAP.

When I saw them, I noticed Ash making some pretty stretched-out and crazy chord shapes (shapes).

There have been a few times when I sorta stumbled onto playing parts of Polvo songs then realized that they were actually pretty simple, major key/chord things. But more often not.
