A WEB of secret internet message boards could be crucial to solving the suspected murder of teenager Carly Ryan.
Police investigating the death of the 15-year-old, found dead in Horseshoe Bay at Port Elliot on Tuesday morning, are examining Carly's MySpace website and dozens of links on it.
Many of those links provide an insight to Adelaide's bizarre teenage "goth" and "emo" world, some sites showing graphic images of bondage, suicide and drug use.
However, most of those MySpace sites - which pay tribute to Carly and could potentially hold vital clues to investigating detectives - have been blocked by their creators to everyone but her tight-knit group of friends.
Carly's own MySpace site has been inundated with messages from grief-stricken friends.
Major crime detectives yesterday conducted extensive interviews with Carly's friends and family, but still do not know the identity of three men seen with her at Freeman Nob at 7.50pm on Monday.
Police were at the Ryan family house at Stirling for most of the day, piecing together Carly's last movements.
Major crime detectives refused to comment on the state of the investigation, including how Carly died.
They would not confirm reports Carly suffered head injuries before her death.
At least 20 members of the public have provided information to police since they declared the death a major crime on Wednesday.
Carly's body was found in shallow water by a woman walking on the beach at 6.30am on Tuesday.
She was dragged from the water by the woman and another man, but ambulance officers were unable to resuscitate her.
Carly's family was alerted to her death when members reported her missing to Hills police on Tuesday night. Police spent two days scouring the bay for evidence, finding a necklace, ring and signs of a disturbance in the sand.
The area has now been reopened to the public.
Only the closest members of the group of mainly teenagers have access to the websites which could hold the key to solving the mystery. The Advertiser yesterday gained access to one such site, created by a former boyfriend of Carly - a 15-year-old with the user name "Danynn".
Pictures posted on the site under the title "R.I.P. Carly" portray a bubbly, slightly alternative and attractive young woman and a long message of love: "It hurts SOO much to know your gone, I can't face it I just can't. I wish I could say that I have no regrets with us that I made your life as happy and fulfilled ass (sic) possible before you went but I can't there are soo many things I could of done," the message reads. "I wait expecting you to just reply to me saying your ok that you're here. But its not happening."
A message posted on Carly's site last night by "Elise" read: "Whoever did this to my best friend will rot behind bars. I miss you so much Carly, I have trouble breathing and my hands shake with out you. I just want you back. I love you Carly."
Another friend of Carly's, who wanted to remain anonymous, yesterday told The Advertiser she "didn't fit into any stereotype group". "She absolutely loved her music - it was a big thing for her. A big escape," he said.
The friend said that it made no sense to him that Carly would be at Port Elliot.
It was not typical of her and her circle of friends to head far from their usual hang-out spots.
He said usual gathering spots included Rundle Mall and the Torrens Parade Ground and Carly often went to popular underage music venue The Underground in Waymouth St.
A message from a MySpace contact on Carly's site, posted at the start of this week, suggests a link to a function at The Underground tonight. "Oh your ass is mine this Friday night!" says "MazlanD".
Family and friends consoled each other at Carly's mother's Stirling house yesterday.
The family asked that their privacy be respected and declined to comment. A special assembly was yesterday held at Carly's former school, Mitcham Girls High, where visibly shaken students consoled each other after being officially told of her death.
