The anti-Musharraf side is holding general strikes. They look to be well organized, because they ( or the insane violence ) have kept people away from their jobs, especially in Karachi.

I've read no reports of any US spokesperson expressing support for the Musharraf government yet.

I don't know about that, but if Musharaff's legitimacy is sufficiently weakened, the resulting political vacuum could indeed be very, very bad news.

These are the fruits of repression and Machiavellian double-dealing.

The country's on fire. The lawlessness that pervades in the rural hinterlands is spilling over into cities. Order has always been fragile, and now it's set to crumble entirely. I genuinely fear for the family that I have there.

It didn't have to come to this. It breaks my heart to see the country go so far in reverse from the 1960's.

The military brought this on themselves and scandalously on the people. We have to be really desperate if we see Benazir Bhutto as a better option. Fuck on a crutch.

Better Musharaff than some unknown alternative. I've always feared an extreme terrorist type leader taking over Pakistan...they's gots the nukes...

When I worry about this, I try to think about the freak we have in office (who not only believes in GOD, but doesn't believe in evolution) who clearly shows no regard for human life and has a significantly larger collection of bombs.

The only way any of those bombs were to ever strike USA soil would be if they brought them over in a shipping container. they don't have a missile that would make the journey.

Basically having a nuclear weapon just means that you can't invade them.
